Why CADR is misleading for bedrooms
Bedrooms typically need only 1-2 ACH because you're stationary and breathing slowly. A purifier with 90-141 CFM CADR cleans the air faster than a sleeping person needs. Anything beyond the Core 300 is overkill - you're just paying for noise headroom you won't use.
Decibel ratings: what we actually measured
We measured at 1 metre with a calibrated Reed sound-level meter. Core 200S and Core 300/300S sleep mode landed at 24 dB. The LV-H132 sleep mode read 26 dB. The Core 600S sleep mode read 25 dB. Below 28 dB is generally inaudible from across a bedroom.
Smart features for bedrooms
If you want the purifier to auto-turn-on at sundown, only the smart Levoits (Core 200S, Core 300S, 400S, 600S, Vital 200S) can do it via VeSync schedules. None of them have presence sensing - they run on timers.
Filter cost for nightly use
Running a Core 300 in sleep mode 8 hours a night uses about 1 kWh per month (well under $1). Filter replacement is the bigger cost: $26-30 every 6 months, or about $5 a month.
